What have I been up to lately? Let's have a read.
Since June 3, I have been acquainting myself with my new position as a Student Ambassador with the City of Garland. In this program, I am interning with the Nicholson Memorial Library System where I will learn and collaborate with the marketing team to create both print and digital marketing materials.
Here's what I’ve been working on so far:
- Creating flyers for upcoming events and closures
- Proofreading Off the Shelf, the library’s seasonal print publication that lists the many programs, services, and events offered.
- Creating brief event summaries for the weekly library board newsletter.
I'm really enjoying it so far. I am already diving into some exciting projects and learning new concepts. For example, I recently discovered the importance of style guidelines. These guidelines are crucial for creating brand cohesiveness. They prevent you from being a Helvetica to Comic Sans type of organization (although I personally prefer Bebas Neue). Additionally, they help establish a consistent tone and feel for your brand, or as we might put it more casually, they help you "know the vibes”. They clarify how your organization prefers the spelling of certain words, the formatting of dates, the guidelines for graphics, and much more. It was exciting to work with and revise my projects alongside these guidelines (Revisions? Exciting? Maybe it's just the new job enthusiasm talking) and gain a new understanding of how brands maintain consistency across publications, posts, fliers, etc.
As this is just the beginning of my journey, I have so much more to share! For this reason , I've decided to start this blog to share my experiences, lessons, and new skills with anyone who cares to read it. I'll also be sharing some awesome Amazon finds in my posts that will benefit all of my fellow striving and thriving professionals out there! So bookmark my page, share it, and check back often. If I haven't posted in a while, send me a message and remind me to “get back on my zoom” (TikTok talk)!
Until next time. Stay busy.
